RECYCLING ASPHALT SHINGLES
Some shingles are thrown away and never used again after being removed from someone’s house. Over 40 million tons of asphalt shingles are taken away from job sites, thrown away and never used again. Sounds wasteful, right? Well, you can begin changing this wasteful cycle.
There are many different ways to recycle asphalt shingles.
DIY Recycling
- You could place the asphalt shingles around a plant in your garden to keep weeds from taking over your garden.
- Is your car leaking oil? Place shingles underneath your car to avoid staining your garage or driveway floor. This will absorb the oil and not allow it to leak onto the concrete.
- And Lord knows, if we get snow here in Ohio, we get a lot of it. Place the asphalt shingles along your walkway to avoid slipping on ice.
Recycling companies
Some recycling companies in the area are now accepting asphalt shingles. They recycle them and use them for new asphalt. The new asphalt will be used to pave new roads or fill in potholes. The shingles with go through a strong magnet to remove all the nails and then will be made into the new asphalt.
Recycling shingles is becoming more and more popular. Here are some areas near you that will accept shingles to recycle them.
